Overview

TechVariable partnered with Network Travels, the largest private transport service in North East India, to digitally transform their operations. We developed an integrated solution comprising an Android app for customers, a web interface for offline counters, and an admin panel for operation management. The new online ticket booking portal allowed bus travelers from North-East India to book their tickets conveniently. It provided the company and customers full transparency in booking orders and payments.

Challenges

As the number of buses and passengers increased, the traditional offline business model in the transport industry became burdensome. Some of the main challenges included:

  • Inconvenience: Customers had to physically visit bus counters for ticket bookings, which was time-consuming and costly.
  • Error-Prone Process: Manual bookings over the phone inevitably led to errors, including multiple bookings for the same seat.
  • Financial Loss: Roadside pickups of passengers and conductors caused revenue loss for authorized agents and negatively impacted the company's reputation.
  • Additional Manpower: The manual processes required the client to maintain extra personnel to serve customers and handle internal operations timely.
  • Lack of Insights: The lack of reliable data on the most profitable routes, customer feedback, and transaction transparency hindered the company’s growth.

  • Online Ticket Booking Portal: Developed an online platform that enabled bus travelers from North-East India to book their tickets conveniently.
  • Transparent Operations: Ensured full transparency of booking orders and payments for the company and customers.
  • Training: Recognizing the digital divide in North East India, a TechVariable team traveled to remote regions of the Northeast and educated locals on the use and benefits of this system.
  • Technical Support: A team of three online system administrators and two software developers from TechVariable provided ongoing support and maintenance.

Result

  • Customer Convenience: The new system provided an easy way for customers to book tickets, thus attracting more users.
  • Transparent Transactions: Financial transactions are now automatically and transparently collated.
  • Informed Decision Making: Understanding booking patterns and other key information helped clients make sound business decisions.
