As a working mother, I sometimes find it difficult to find a balance between doing a good job at work and being the best mother, I can be to my son. I love my job, but my family is my priority. Now, looking back over the time I have worked for TechVariable, I am so appreciative that I found a company that supports me. I don’t have to choose my family over my work or vice-versa. I get to enjoy the best of both worlds.
Work is Work
I changed jobs several times after college, and although I didn’t always like the job I had, a job is a job. Finally, one company decided to take a chance on me. I was given the opportunity to work in HR. Even though I was not trained in HR, I trusted in my abilities and accepted the job.
As I learned the ropes and developed new skills, I heard about a group of people who were starting a new company. I offered to help them out with recruitment as a freelancer on the side. That company was TechVariable.
Changing Course
In time, I got married and when my first child was born, I decided to quit my job to take care of my son. When he was only 8 months old, my small family found themselves grappling with a difficult situation. Due to some health problems, we found ourselves without an income. My husband and I didn’t know what we were going to do.
I decided to reach out to TechVariable again. At the time, they were proactively building up their team and needed help with recruiting. I offered to help but with one request: I needed the weekends free to stay at home with my baby. To my delight, the company gladly agreed to my request.
With my family and TechVariable behind me to support me, I set off on a new career path. This time though, I was heading into a position that I had created for myself.
Striking a Balance
As I said, my life as a working mum can be hectic. It’s difficult to balance being a mother to a small baby and having a career.
But the support and consideration shown by TechVariable amaze me, and I am so very grateful for it. Not only have my supervisors been understanding but they have shown genuine interest and concern about my situation. And they even continuously check in to see if I need any extra support.
On occasions, I need to stay home to take care of my child. At these times, TechVariable has proactively made arrangements so that I could work from home until I could get back to the office.
The company puts forth a real effort to make its female employees feel comfortable, valued, and part of the team. I look forward to more women joining the TechVariable workforce in the future.
I appreciate that the company isn’t solely focused on deadlines and work tasks. They genuinely care about their workers too. If there is a personal emergency, they always provide a helping hand.
I believe that success comes to those who give it their all, and I find that TechVariable creates an environment that makes it easy to put forth your best effort. Here, I visualize myself growing with the team that I consider my second family.
From the heart…
It is a challenge to try to have the best of both worlds. But working for a company that is considerate of your personal life can make it possible. TechVariable taught me that I don’t have to choose. And I want other women to have the chance to experience that for themselves.
If I were to offer any advice to other women who worry about balancing a career and being a mom, I would tell them not to worry. It is possible to have both.
